Dr Ashok Jhunjhunwala is a Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and was the Department Chair till recently. Since 1981, he has been teaching at IIT, Madras. He was instrumental in establishing the TeNeT group at IIT with fellow faculty members, with a vision to make India a design house in the area of telecom and computer networks. His TeNeT group has incubated a number of R&D companies that work in partnership with TeNeT group to develop world class technologies. For his pioneering efforts, he has been honored with numerous awards including the Padmashri in 2002.
